The cottage’s entrance opens into a spacious yet cozy, open-plan living area. The lounge is furnished with comfortable sofas, a Smart TV, DVD player, and a warm log-burning stove, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. The adjacent kitchen area is well-equipped with a breakfast bar for casual meals, a built-in electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, larder fridge, and a Nespresso coffee machine. The dining area has a table with seating for six.
Double doors lead to the beautiful, light, and airy conservatory, which serves as a glorious garden room. Here you can relax on comfortable seating and take in the stunning views over the garden, the eight-acre pond, and the Solent beyond. French doors open onto the rear garden terrace.
The ground floor also includes a double Bedroom 2 with a wardrobe and drawers, and a convenient walk-in shower room with a wash basin, WC, and heated towel rail. A separate utility room with an extra fridge and freezer and a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer add to the convenience.
Upstairs on the first floor, you’ll find the serene master suite, Bedroom 1, with a king-size bed, wardrobe, and dressing table. This room’s highlight is the south-facing balcony, where you can enjoy your morning coffee while watching the boats on the water. The en-suite bathroom has a bath with a shower over, a wash basin, and a WC.
Also on the first floor is Bedroom 3, a versatile room with a single bed and a trundle bed underneath, along with a wardrobe and drawers.
Your Outdoor Space
The garden is a truly wonderful feature of Maiden Cottage. A natural lawn leads down to Eight Acre Pond, the home of Salterns Sailing Club. There is an outdoor dining table and seating for six, perfect for enjoying meals with a view. Various seating areas are dotted around the garden to make the most of the glorious views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. For the little ones, there’s a charming treehouse with a slide and a couple of tree swings.
Please be aware that children and pets should be supervised at all times near the water, which is shallow but unfenced, and on the play equipment.
Discover the Local Area
The location of Maiden Cottage is ideal for both relaxation and adventure. The coastal path meanders behind the garden’s large oak trees, providing easy access for walking, jogging, cycling, and bird spotting. A pleasant 20-minute walk along the coastal path or country lanes will take you to Lymington’s popular Georgian High Street, with its array of shops, pubs, cafes, and restaurants. The famous Saturday Charter Market is a must-visit.
The nearby Lymington Sea Water Baths offer family fun with an inflatable obstacle course and paddleboard hire. The ferry to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight is a short drive or train ride away. The New Forest National Park, with its free-roaming ponies and donkeys, is just a ten-minute drive from the cottage.
Practical Information
- Parking: There is a private gated driveway with space for three to four cars.
- Pets: Up to two dogs are welcome for a small extra charge. They must be over one year old, well-behaved, fully house-trained, and kept downstairs and off the furniture.
- Amenities: Bed linen, towels (please bring your own beach towels), gas central heating, Wi-Fi, and a welcome basket of logs are included.
- EV Charging: Not available on-site. The nearest charging points are a 6-minute drive away.
- Short Breaks: Available all year round from a Friday or Monday.
- Beaches: Several beautiful beaches are within a short drive, including Milford on Sea (4 miles) and Barton on Sea (7 miles).
- Local Facilities: A selection of pubs and restaurants are within a 10-15 minute walk. The shops in Lymington High Street are a 20-minute walk away.
